UPDATE: Pittsburgh Prisoners Get Physical Book Rights Back
A rare bit of good news to end your week.
According to a 12/2/2020 update from Pittsburgh news site Public Source, Allegheny County Jail inmates’ rights to order physical books have been restored. Yay!
Warden Orlando Hooper says in this update that it’s because the tablets thing was just meant as a temporary means to ferret out some contraband, but he didn’t say that in the original story, and the original story said that the Allegheny County Jail board was surprised to hear about the tablets.
Plus, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is expanding its current partnership with the jail to offer more of its physical, audio, and ebooks to inmates as well.
So let’s just go ahead and claim a tiny bit of victory here, because we all need it.
Read on, everybody!
